Château Lafitte

Monein, Jurançon

This magnificent château dates back to the 14th century, and is located in the commune of Monein, in the heart of the Jurançon appellation. Currently, the winery is operated by Antoine Arraou, who took over the property from his parents Philippe and Brigitte.

The vineyards of the Southwest are a stronghold for conventional winemaking, but under Antoine’s guidance, Château Lafitte has become a leading light for natural wine in the region.

His holdings are all Petit and Gros Manseng on argilo- calcareous soils. The estate covers five hectares of vines, which have all recently undergone biodynamic conversion.

In many respects, Antoine goes above and beyond the usual parameters of natural winemaking. He favours a natural vinification process without sulphites or cultured yeasts, but even more impressive is that the winery is largely self- sufficient, running on a combination of solar power, gravity, and rainwater.
