RIPPA DELLA VOLTA
Valpantena
Veneto
Valpantena, near to Verona, has another name, Valley of the Gods, and a visit to Ripo della Volta leaves you in no doubt as to where the name comes from. This project comes from the passionate Andrea Pernigo. With a real love for the land, the project is certified organic and sees responsible stewardship and innovation as core tenets.
Ripa della Volta are at the heart of the Valpolicella area. The estate spans 25 hectares, at an altitude of 300 to 600 meters. This unspoiled natural haven is planted with the native red and white varietals of the area, where they thrive to produce wines rooted in tradition and place, conveying an authentic picture of the land.
Their low intervention attitude to the land extends into the cellar, where the philosophy is to create wines which are authentic, with a profound character.
The estate is a fine example of environmental balance, where different environments coexist in a Mediterranean microclimate. The Lessini Mountains push breezes onto the area, which gives a helpful diurnal temperature range. The soils are marly and rich in limestone; ideal for the vineyards, olive groves and orchards which can be found on these slops.
Valpantena is a land marked by heritage and tradition in winemaking, which is something Andrea was keen to respect, whilst continuing to innovate in order to produce wines which truly speak of the region. This approach meant that they brought in sustainable and organic principles, and a decision was also made to fully manage the estate themselves, to maintain total control of the entire production process all the way from farming to bottling.
Ripa della Volta has a young enthusiastic team with a focus on rigour and sustainability. They have welcomed experienced young oenologist Emanuela Flore from Sardinia who has brought further ideas and helped to push the winery further.
A project born of a passion for the land, a respect for nature and a desire to make wine in harmony with the native environment.
